Functional Yoga

.A lovely class to end the day, leaving you feeling stretched, toned and restored.

The classes explore a range of reclining, seated and standing postures (asanas). These are held to allow time for adjustments and to settle the breath, before transitioning into the next one. Each session ends with a deep relaxation and/or meditation.

The yoga taught is functional, meaning that only postures and transitions that assist and improve our natural range of motion and movement are used. The overall aim is to strengthen key muscles that support the joints (hips, knees and shoulders) as well as improve flexibility in these joints to improve posture, stability, mobility and balance.

Who is this class for?

No previous experience of yoga is necessary but a certain level of fitness and mobility is required as participants need to be able to move through reclining, seated and standing postures with ease.

Booking is in blocks of five sessions and there are two blocks each term. You can book a drop-in session if there is space in the class.

Rachel is an exceptional teacher. She has an intuitive knack of pitching the classes exactly right, keeping them lively and interesting without overdoing it. Her cues and timing are perfect and she is brilliant at including variations that suit all levels as well as being sympathetic and inclusive of people with specific issues. I always finish her classes feeling refreshed, reinvigorated and ready for anything!
